DWDM systems typically use wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) to combine signals from multiple optical fibers onto a single fiber. They can also be used to connect multiple buildings within a campus. DWDM systems are often used to transport data over long distances, such as between cities or across countries. This allows for a much higher total data bandwidth than what could be achieved using only a single wavelength. It is a technology used in fiber-optic communication that multiplexes a number of optical carrier signals onto a single fiber by using different wavelengths (colors) of laser light.
